We are thrilled to announce the relaunch of our on-board catering service (steam and diesel hauled services only, not available on our heritage diesel railcar). From Sunday 13/06/2021, our beautiful griddle car will be back in the main train formation, serving hot & cold drinks, snacks, a wide selection of alcoholic beverages (wine, beer, cider, spirits...) and even hot breakfasts! So when you jump on board, make sure you pop down and take a look...
"Davy" has arrived!
The Shackerstone Railway Society are thrilled to announce that we have purchased our very own industrial shunter, based on the British Railways class 11 design. The locomotive, named "Davy", was saved at the very last minute from the scrap man, re-routed to Shackerstone following loading at the Llangollen Railway. Further details about the engine and its fascinating story will be added shortly. In the meantime, we are appealing for donations to help towards the purchase, movement and restoration costs of the locomotive, and have setup a paypal donation link below, to ensure that future generations can enjoy this engine, which was so close to being lost forever.
Our recently refitted shop on Platform 2 at Shackerstone is open for business! Now boasting an extended range of gifts for everyone, from model railways to books, souverier pens to postcards, cuddly toys to retro signs and so much more. We even have our very own range of childrens activity books wrote specifically about The Battlefield Line and its many engines. Make sure that when you visit us to make a trip into the shop an absolute must. The shop is usually open on weekends when trains are operating throughout the year.
Train services have now resumed, operating on weekends and bank holidays. We are currently using our heritage diesel railcar on Saturdays, and our diesel locomotives & compartment coaches on Sundays. Steam services are due to start on 30th May, all of which are now pre-bookable online or by ringing the office.
Shenton Station Cafe- New opening hours
The cafe at Shenton Station is now open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Weekends from 10:00 - 16:00, serving hot and cold food & drinks.
New addition to the fleet arrives!
Today we are thrilled to welcome English Electric type one, diesel-electric class 20, D8110 which is joining our fleet of diesel locomotives, courtesy of HNRC ltd. It is hoped that D8110 will share the diesel passenger services with 33201 throughout May, and hopefully by later this year 37906 will also be ready. This will then give us a choice of 3 heritage diesels to use on our services.
Further details on our 2021 train services and prebooking are now available on our timetable page

Firstly, on behalf of the board of directors and the volunteers at The Battlefield Line, we would like to wish everyone a Happy (& Safe) New Year!
As we move into 2021, we still have an uncertain pathway ahead through the next 12 months and beyond. We are unable to set a date for our train services to re-commence, but would like to ensure everyone we will do so as soon as we practicably can, in line with government legislation.
However, we are still moving forward as a society to ensure the future of the railway. Our volunteers have a huge task ahead of them to keep everything in working order, while still covering the monthly costs, not knowing when we can welcome visitors back again.
To support the volunteers and the important work they carry out, we have launched a new fundraising arm of the society - The Battlefield Line Trust.
The Battlefield Line Trust Limited (Registered company No 11500344) is now appealing for donations. The money raised will be used to ensure the continued running of The Battlefield Line Railway, as well as heading exciting new projects along the length of the line. There is a list of benefits available for those who donate, which can be found on the trusts dedicated webpage below:
