A new engine shed!
It has always been a long-term ambition of the Shackerstone Railway Society to upgrade the undercover facilities available on site for locomotives, carriages and wagons. The existing shed was built in the 1970's using secondhand materials (including parts from an old cinema!). For many years it has provided shelter for priceless locomotives and allow our volunteers to work with protection from the elements to create truly wonderful restoration projects.

However, the time has now come to replace the current, life-expired shed with a new one. It will be bigger, brighter and ensure many more years of excellent work can be carried out by our volunteers so as thousands more passengers can enjoy the railways of yesteryear.

The project has been chosen to benefit from a fundraising raffle, where we hope to raise up to £20,000 towards its cost. All proceeds from the raffle, along with other fundraising activities on-site such as donation boxes will help us achieve this ambitious project, estimated to cost in the region of £65,000. This will provide a 2-road shed, 30 metres in length and eventually include new workshop facilities and even a visitor area too!

At the start of 2022 the society successfully relaid 16 panels of track in the cutting at Shackerstone and thanks to donations towards its £70,000 cost, is now fully completed. So please help us achieve this next exciting project and purchase a raffle ticket from our on-board team or from one of our ticket offices.
