The SRS was formed in 1969 by a group of like minded individuals with a passion for railways. Since then, the railway has grown into a popular tourist attraction in the Midlands, with many returning customers year after year, along with plenty of new ones too!

Running a railway requires a lot of hard work, most of which is undertaken by our volunteers.
Some of the roles they assume can be seen below.

We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to help run the railway. There are vacancies in all departments, whether it's within the catering & retail areas, looking after our buildings & rolling stock or even taking up the challenge of becoming a locomotive cleaner and working through the ranks to become a locomotive driver!

Why Volunteer? There are many reasons, including:

  • Meet new people

  • Find a new interest

  • Gain confidence

  • Get experience

  • Make the most of your skills

  • Improve mental and physical health

  • Have fun!

All volunteers must be paid-up members of the Shackerstone Railway Society for insurance purposes when working on site. Membership also includes other benefits such as reduced fares, retail discount & society magazine.
